A large power plant based on sodium-ion batteries has started operating in the People’s Republic of China

In the city of Tianjiang, Hubei province, the first stage of a storage power plant with a capacity of 100 MWh has started operation.

It includes 42 battery containers and 21 devices for converting electricity. The complex uses sodium-ion batteries of high capacity (185 A·h). After the construction of the second stage, the station will become the largest in the world in its category.

The storage complex will help ensure stable operation of green energy. The station will undergo more than 300 charging and discharging cycles per year. At normal load, it will be able to provide electricity to about 12 thousand households for one day.

Specialists note that almost all equipment for the station is developed in China. Sodium-ion batteries are safe to use and perform well in both low and high temperatures. The batteries are able to withstand approximately 1500 charge and discharge cycles at a temperature of up to 60 °C.
